Robbie Savage launches foundation to give children free access to grassroots football

Pupils at Handforth Grange Primary School have been working with The Savage Foundation to allow youngsters access to free grassroots football, regardless of their background or ability, with the aim that no child should be disadvantaged.

Former footballer, Robbie Savage, has unveiled his new foundation created to give children access to grassroots football. The Foundation allows inspirational opportunities for young people to enjoy being physically active in a safe, fun and engaging environment – eliminating barriers to level the playing field.

Robbie Savage, who is Head of Football at Macclesfield FC, says his community-based company, will provide free football coaching sessions for all primary school children. His foundation aims to help every child experience the enjoyment and benefits that being active can bring – increase their confidence and promote the importance of both their physical and mental wellbeing.

Mark Unwin, Headteacher of Handforth Grange and Deputy CEO of the Frank Field Education Trust said: “As a Trust and a school, we are committed to ensuring the academic, sporting, musical and creative development of all our pupils regardless of their background. By supporting our families to access The Savage Foundation’s Football sessions with staff and transport, we have been able to ensure that some of our children benefit from the out-of-school football for the first time.”

PE Leader, Mr Joe Shaw at Handforth Grange Primary School has been working to gain interest with pupils and parents, using the school mini-bus to take Pupil Premium children to Macclesfield Football Club, every Tuesday from 6:30pm. The foundation supports youngsters who want to develop their footballing skills in a safe and secure environment, whilst creating strong friendship networks.

Handforth Grange is currently the only school supporting children in this way and our Pupil Premium children are getting access to out-of-school football training for the first time ever.0 Likes
