EYFS: Reception Curriculum

Themes covered over the year

In Reception, we develop the 7 areas of learning throughout each term, ensuring all children are both supported and challenged in order to achieve their full potential. Our broad, balanced and engaging curriculum is developed from the 7 key areas of learning.

Each half term we cover a different theme using a range of high-quality texts and resources. In line with the rest of the school, in Reception we provide the children with stimulating ignition days. We allow time during each theme to develop a deeper understanding of a specific interest chosen by the children or a significant celebration/event happening in the world around us.

We cover these topics to ensure the children are provided with a broad and balances curriculum. During each theme covered, high quality texts, resources and provision will be used to ensure the children are developing the procedural knowledge expected for the time period. To ensure our learning is relevant and exciting we ensure we have extra time within a topic to develop the children’s interest this may be a continuation of a theme or feature they are exposed. They can also be based on a current event or celebration.

Intent

Our aim in EYFS is to ensure that every child has a positive start to their educational journey by providing them with a safe, supportive and respectful learning environment. We have the highest expectations of both attainment and behaviour whilst providing a broad and balanced curriculum to ensure each child achieves their full potential. All children, regardless of gender, ability, socio-economic background and additional needs, are engaged in an exciting, ambitious and adaptive curriculum. Our inclusive learning environment ignites children’s imagination and enhances their natural creativity and curiosity.  Throughout EYFS, we promote positive attitudes towards learning and ensure each child makes appropriate steps to reach the Early Learning Goals.
